Open-source library guidance break down updates with Windows Installer (MSI)
This recommendation from Microsoft Open-source library guidance:
✔️ CONSIDER only including a major version in the AssemblyVersion
[link].
is strictly not compatible with Windows Installer (MSI).
When the user install the new version of the program, MSI leaves the old libraries if AssemblyVersion has not been changed (AssemblyFileVersion is ignored by MSI!). This also applies to third-party open source libraries used by the program.
Actually I need to recompile each library and manually set the AssemblyVersion, if library developer followed Open-source library guidance.
Is there any solution of this problem?
