Converting entire column to time
I have following dataframe which has 3 columns (id, startTime, endTime). I want to convert startTime column to time and create a new column.
id startTime endTime
1 1 2018/10/01 10:00:00 2018/10/01 10:00:06
2 2 2018/10/01 10:00:01 2018/10/01 10:00:07
3 3 2018/10/01 10:00:02 2018/10/01 10:00:08
4 4 2018/10/01 10:00:03 2018/10/01 10:00:09
5 5 2018/10/01 10:00:04 2018/10/01 10:00:10
6 6 2018/10/01 10:00:05 2018/10/01 10:00:11
I tried
df$ST <- as.POSIXct(df["startTime"])
and I got following error.
Error in as.POSIXct.default(df["startTime"]) :
do not know how to convert 'df["startTime"]' to class “POSIXct”
and then tried
df$ST <- as.Date.POSIXct(df["startTime"])
and got following error.
Error in unclass(x)/86400 : non-numeric argument to binary operator
How can I do this?

Common error, solution:as.POSIXct(df[["startTime"]])
. Oras.POSIXct(df[, "startTime"])
. To know why see what areclass(df["startTime"])
andclass(df[["startTime"]])
.
