Basic url or domain RegEx to block users from adding a website to string
I'm trying to prohibit users from including any website URLs in a description field. I'm working on a script to use RegEx to strip out any website references, but I'm running into some unforeseen challenges. This is the RegEx I'm using to find the url/website match (should match with or without protocol, i.e. http://www.google.com/q?some=val
or simply google.com
):
((?:https://)|(?:http://)|(?:www.))?([a-zA-Z0-9-.]+.[a-zA-Z]{2,3}(?:??)[a-zA-Z0-9-._?,'/\+&%$#=~]+)
A problem I'm seeing is that people don't include a space before a new sentence, so I'm getting false matches like in this example:
Some content
here.But
I forgot the space to start the second sentence.
Any ideas?
