kafka server availability check using RD Client C APIs

Is there any API to check kafka broker(or list brokers) availability using RD Client?

Currently I querying metadata using "rd_kafka_metadata" API. If it didn't returns any metadata then I assumes that broker is down. But problem with this approach is that when any of the broker is down out of broker list then will it wait for timeout expiry then only it returns from rd_kafka_metadata API.

I am using RHEL 7.3. RD Client is 0.11.5 and kafka broker is kafka_2.11-1.1.0
