Xpath for primeng p-menu first element

0

I am trying to run e2e tests using serenity and cucumber for angular.

component.html

<p-menu id="settings-menu" #menu [popup]="true" [model]="userMenu"></p-menu>

parent-component.ts

usermenu = [{label: 'item1', command: (event) => { ...}}, {label: 'item2'}];

While implementing a step, I need to issue a click event on item1

step_definition.ts

this.Then(/ ....... $/ ,() => {
let component = Target.the('item1')
.located(by.xpath(
'//*[@id="settings-menu"]/div/ul/li[0]/a'
));
return stage.theActorInTheSpotlight().attemptsTo(
Click.on(ManageGroupUI.component),
Wait.for(Duration.ofSeconds(5))
);
}

My test passes but the code in the command() for item1 object doesn't execute.
I also tried
'//*[@id="settings-menu"]/p-menu/div/ul/li[0]/a'
